Friends From the Beginning: Here’s two-fifths of our family, almost four years ago. The creature on the left is Mona, who, due to her designation as the nutjob of the house, was my biggest worry when we brought home the baby. As it turns out, Mona tolerated the other creature in this picture as if she were channeling Mother Teresa with a Ghandi chaser. Mona, who isn’t feeling so well right now, has been on my mind. She’s been our protector, our 90-pound lapdog, our regular source of annoyance, our “blue-eyed devil” for five years, and I hate to see her suffer. What will we do with her? Love her, I guess, just like the part of the family she is.
Makes Me Want to Grow a ‘Fro:This is my very first painting, painted on my 39th birthday. My mom, knowing that I’ve been dying to learn to paint, signed me up for a Bob Ross painting class at her local rec center. I don’t really love purple waterfalls, but painting is painting, and experimenting with “happy accidents” and putting a “happy little rock” in the water along with the six senior citizens in the class was one of the best ways I’ve ever spent a birthday.
